Ravenswood Montessori School (RMS) is a member of the American Montessori Society and Illinois Montessori Society. We subscribe wholeheartedly to the Montessori method and strive to provide an environment that not only nurtures your children emotionally, but academically as well. Our learning rooms are designed with multi-age groupings that foster peer learning and development. We encourage independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order. We work strongly with sensory-motor activities that enable children to learn through experience, within an uplifting environment.
Music inspires many aspects of child development as a catalyst for intellectual, social, emotional, motor, and language growth. Along with the academic benefits, it is a proven fact that music inspires joy and creativity in young minds. Learning an instruments boosts self esteem and confidence. The act of committing to a goal, practicing, and then observing an improvement, teaches patience and inspires children to do their very best. Music is incorporated into the children daily curriculum in the form of group learning and performance. Private and group Suzuki method piano and violin lessons will be offered here at RMS. French and Spanish will be integrated into the Spring 2018 curriculum here at RMS. Studies show that early exposure to foreign languages leads to easier fluency later on in life. Young children are still in the developmental phase where mimicking new sounds and adopting pronunciation come easily. Learning a second language develops the brain cognitively, as well as establishes an early appreciation for different cultures. At RMS, we teach our students in the hope of creating empathy and curiosity for different cultures, to prepare them for success in a global society.
We believe that children should be encouraged to pursue their artistic aspirations. At Ravenswood Montessori, we use aspects of the Reggio Emilia approach to help children establish an independent and free approach to art. We promote child-led projects, and introduce the children to new materials and media every day.
Today’s children will become a part of an increasingly technical world. At RMS, we have designated times and areas for children to work with computers and tablets. Students solve puzzles, play educational games, learn language development skills, and develop familiarity with early mathematics. In the right context, technology is a wonderful tool to help stimulate your child’s growth and play.
