Mission Statement
We at the Ravenswood Montessori School (RMS) are dedicated to providing quality education through the use of the Montessori approach. We strive to provide a challenging and supportive academic environment that inspires students to become confident thinkers and compassionate human beings. RMS is an institution that works to not only facilitate academic growth, but social and emotional growth as well.
The primary academic focus of Ravenswood Montessori School (RMS) includes language, mathematics, music and science.
Socially we promote an environment of independence, order, self-control, socialization, coordination and concentration.
Who We Are
Ravenswood Montessori School (RMS) is located at 1945 W. Wilson Ave., 2nd floor, Chicago, IL 60640.
We are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Ravenswood Montessori School is a member of the American Montessori Society and Illinois Montessori Society. This is a child-centered educational approach that recognizes a child’s natural eagerness for knowledge, and ability to initiate learning. Here at RMS we value hands-on learning and provide an environment that fosters the students natural desire to learn.
The innovative premises we use at RMS are guided by Dr. Maria Montessori:
- Children are to be respected as unique individuals, each developing at his or her own pace, according to specific developmental stages.
- The most essential life skills, such as language development, are acquired from birth to age 6 and honed in the elementary and secondary years.
- Children learn through purposeful activity.
- Children possess unusual sensitivity and cognitive abilities for absorbing and learning from the people and objects in their environment.
